Intercultural Communication Advancement Program

a Foundation for Academic study

Admission to an undergraduate program without the skills to perform well is of little value. Students without the proper skills to succeed in their undergraduate work risk lowering their grades, missing entrance to a major or Master's program in the future or worse, expulsion from their university.

The Intercultural Communication Advancement Program (ICAP) is designed to improve undergraduate performance through:

  • academic course work
  • intercultural communication knowledge and practice
  • critical thinking skills development
  • mentorship
  • undergraduate program placement

Students in ICAP enroll in three academic courses chosen from the fields of Arts, Business, Science and Music and experience full-time programs of study within a framework explaining North American academic culture and expectations. This combination of academic and skills-based training is ideal for students looking to ready themselves for the academic and cultural demands of studying in an international setting.

In short, ICAP prepares international students not just for admission, but for success in their undergraduate studies.

The Intercultural Communication Advancement Program (iCAP) is a non-credit program offered by Continuing Studies, the University of British Columbia.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

“University life is a real big challenge for me. However, I think I adjusted to it much more easily because of ICAP experiences. In my first session in SFU, I decided to study Macroeconomics and Critical Thinking because I have had similar and almost the same academic experiences in ICAP. After three weeks study, I realised that it could be really difficult for me to adapt to all the courses without relative academic background. Therefore, I really appreciate all the instructors in ICAP helping me. Thank you for your help all the time!”
